1. Opening

Friends whom Allah has blessed, have we ever reflected on how orderly and faithful this universe operates? The Earth rotates on its axis without missing a single second. Water evaporates to form clouds, and the very same H₂O molecules are sent back down to Earth as refreshing raindrops. Scientifically, the laws of nature are objective, consistent, and have no emotional bias. They recognize no caste, regard no social status, and do not care what ideology touches them. When these laws of nature operate with absolute consistency, that is where our hearts should find tranquility. Why? Because we realize that this universe is not governed by chaotic coincidence, but is under the canopy of a Grand Design that is Most Just. Natural law is proof that our Creator never plays favorites in laying out the facilities of life on the world’s stage.2. Qur’anic Verses and Hadith

Allah SWT affirms the universality of His material mercy in this world through His words:

وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَوْزُونٍ

“And We have spread out the earth and placed therein firm mountains, and caused to grow therein every kind of thing in due proportion.”[QS. Al-Ḥijr 15:19]

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also reminded us how Allah SWT still grants the rights of life to all creatures, regardless of their defiance:

لَا أَحَدَ أَصْبَرُ عَلَى أَذًى سَمِعَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ، يُشْرَكُ بِهِ وَيُجْعَلُ لَهُ وَلَدٌ، ثُمَّ هُوَ يُعَافِيهِمْ وَيَرْزُقُهُمْ

“No one is more patient with harmful words he hears than Allah; He is associated with partners and is claimed to have a child, yet He still grants them health and provides for them.”[HR. Bukhārī no. 6099]

2. Lessons and Message

The greatest moral message from this just natural law is a call for our souls to tear down spiritual and social arrogance. If Allah SWT, the Lord of the Universe, is willing to give water, oxygen, and the warmth of the sun to those who even deny His existence, then by what right do we—who merely live as guests on His earth—dare to withhold goodness, act unjustly, or close the door of humanity to fellow creatures? The justice of natural law teaches us to place professionalism and fairness above personal sentiment. In this world, the material law of cause and effect applies to everyone. Whoever plants, he will harvest. Our faith must not be used as an excuse for laziness in worldly causality; rather, it must become the driving force to be the most beneficial human beings for the universe.

Let us recall a deeply touching fragment of humanity from the golden era of Islam. One day, Caliph ‘Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb RA was walking around a corner of Madinah. He saw an old, frail man, blind, begging near the door of a house. ‘Umar approached him, gently touched his arm, and asked, “From which community are you?” The old man answered, “I am a Jew.” ‘Umar asked again, “What has forced you to beg like this?” The old man sighed, “I must pay the jizyah [tax for non-Muslim citizens] and I no longer have the physical ability to work.” Hearing that answer, the Caliph’s composure crumbled. Tears from ‘Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb wet his beard. He took the blind Jewish man’s hand, brought him to his own house, gave him food from his own pocket, then sent an urgent message to the treasurer of the Baitul Māl:

“Look into this man and others like him! By Allah, we have acted unjustly if we consumed their labor in their youth, then abandoned them in poverty when they grew old and frail!” ‘Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb exempted the Jewish man from jizyah and granted him a proper monthly stipend from the Muslim state treasury until the end of his life. ‘Umar understood that in the realm of humanity and protection of life, Allah’s law of justice applies absolutely,

Friends, let us create a solid analogy to understand this principle. Imagine a building wall. If that wall is built by an atheist engineer with precision—perfectly vertical using a plumb line, and the cement and brick composition is exact according to geometry—then the wall will stand firm for decades. Conversely, if that wall is built by a religious teacher who performs tahajjud prayer every night, yet he builds it crookedly, carelessly, and violates the laws of physical architecture, then by Allah, the teacher’s wall will collapse the instant the wind blows. Does Allah hate the teacher? No. But Allah honors His own laws that He has placed in the universe. Prayer and piety are the spiritual path to seek blessings in the Hereafter, but cement and bricks are the path of physical causality in this world. We cannot use ritual piety to replace operational indiscipline in the physical world.

There is a funny story that delivers a stinging inner rebuke. It is told that there was a young man who felt he was the most pious in his village because he never missed congregational prayer. One day, during heavy rains, he walked arrogantly past his rice field, which was directly adjacent to his neighbor’s field—the neighbor known for rarely worshiping. Suddenly, lightning struck a tree near them, and floodwaters began to overflow. This pious young man shouted to the sky, “O Allah! Flood my neighbor’s field—the one who neglects You—and make fertile my field, for I always attend Your house!” He closed his eyes devoutly, awaiting a miracle. As soon as he opened his eyes, what happened? The floodwater—which has no eyes or ears—kept flowing evenly, soaking both the pious young man’s field and his neighbor’s field without the slightest hindrance. In fact, because his neighbor diligently made good drainage ditches while the pious young man was too lazy to hoe because he was busy daydreaming, it was the pious young man’s field that got waterlogged and ruined, while his hardworking neighbor’s field—with its well-managed ditches—remained safe and fertile. His neighbor walked by with a friendly smile and said, “Come on, hoe your ditches, brother… This floodwater doesn’t read your WhatsApp status showing you’re praying devoutly!” The young man went home red-faced, realizing that the law of water gravity cannot be bribed with social piety status.

2. Conclusion and Closing

In conclusion, let us etch this great theological principle into our minds: Rain will still wet the fields of both a Muslim and a disbeliever, because Allah is _Ar-Raḥmān_—the Most Merciful to all creation in this world. Fire will still burn the skin of both a religious teacher and an atheist if touched, because Allah maintains the consistency of physical cause-and-effect laws. Gravity will still pull down both a righteous person and a thief if they jump off a cliff, because the Earth does not operate based on human emotions. The world is a testing ground [Dār al-Asbāb], where physical laws apply objectively.

Let us unite two strengths: master the earth’s laws of causality with professional work, and adorn our souls with the purity of tawḥīd and sincere intention for the Hereafter. Thus, we will become superior human beings who achieve success on earth and eternal nobility in Paradise later
