Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

1. Preface
Did you know that inside our nose there is a “security force” so tiny yet incredibly powerful? Imagine, in an area just 2.5 square centimeters—no larger than your thumb’s first joint—Allah has planted 10 million olfactory nerve cells. Unlike the eyes that need light or the hands that need touch, the sense of smell is a 24-Hour Security System. It works in pitch darkness, penetrates bedroom walls, and gives us a vast “security perimeter.” When you are fast asleep and there is a gas leak in the kitchen, it is your nose that wakes you—not your closed eyes or silent ears. This is Allah’s protection: invisible, yet real every second.
2. Qur’anic Evidence and Hadith
The Word of Allah SWT:
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ
“Indeed, We have created everything in due measure.” (QS. Al-Qamar: 49)
The Saying of the Messenger of Allah SAW:
حُبِّبَ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا النِّسَاءُ وَالطِّيبُ وَجُعِلَتْ قُرَّةُ عَيْنِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ
“Beloved to me from this world are women [righteous wives] and fragrance; and the coolness of my eyes has been placed in prayer.” (HR. An-Nasa’i)
3. Lessons and Message
Science shows that the deliciousness of food is not only the work of the tongue, but the result of teamwork with 10 million nasal nerves. When we have a cold, even the tastiest food feels bland. The lesson: Life’s pleasures are often a collaboration of small things we frequently overlook. Do not only be grateful when receiving great blessings, but be grateful for every molecule of air and every scent that makes our life feel “flavorful.”Let us recall the story of Prophet Ya’qub AS. For decades he lost his beloved son, Yusuf AS, until his eyes went blind from weeping. Yet before the caravan carrying Yusuf’s shirt even reached his home, Ya’qub said: “Indeed, I smell the scent of Yusuf.”
It was hundreds of miles away, but Allah allowed a longing father’s nose to find his son’s trace through scent. This proves that smell is the sense most closely tied to memory and hope. The sense of smell in animals is far sharper; bees find flowers from tens of kilometers away, and butterflies find their mates from afar by scent alone. If animals are equipped with such powerful “aroma” navigation to seek provision and mates, how can we humans lose to animals in finding our way back to Allah? Faith should be the “scent” that guides us back to the “nest” of obedience even in the world’s darkness.Sometimes we are strange. We willingly pay a high price for branded perfume to earn praise, but we rarely thank the “detector” (the nose) that Allah gave us for free. Imagine if Allah charged rent for those 10 million olfactory nerves—maybe our entire month’s salary would be spent just to pay the bill for “smelling fried rice.” So, if tomorrow morning you can still smell coffee or the scent of your own socks that haven’t been washed for three days, say: Alhamdulillah! That means your security system is still active!
4. Conclusion
Everything is created with precise measure. Ten million nerves in the human nose, and hundreds of millions in animals—all are Allah’s signs written on our bodies. Let us use this sense to sniff out truth and stay away from the stench of sin. May Allah always keep us within His circle of protection, outwardly and inwardly
