1. Opening
Beloved friends whom Allah has blessed, …Have you ever felt puzzled seeing disbelievers who live in opulence, possess captivating looks, or wield highly advanced technology? Scientifically and spiritually, that is not a sign of Allah’s love, but a deceptive test. Allah SWT may grant the world and all it contains to anyone, including the disbeliever. Yet there is one precious asset that is exclusively given by Allah only to His believing servants: _Al-Ḥikmah_—wisdom. Without wisdom, all worldly facilities become a deadly trap [istidrāj].
Allah SWT reminds us of this in the Qur’an:
فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلَا أَوْلَادُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ بِهَا فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنْفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَافِرُونَ
“So let not their wealth or their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in worldly life and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.”
[QS. At-Tawbah: 55]Conversely, disbelief and denial produce blindness of the heart. No matter how brilliant a person’s business strategy or IQ, if he denies Allah, he will suffer a fatal ignorance that destroys all his deeds.
Allah SWT affirms:
الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَضَلَّ أَعْمَالَهُم
“Those who disbelieve and avert from the way of Allah—He will waste their deeds.”
[QS. Muhammad: 1(
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also reminded us in a hadith about how Allah distributes the world and faith:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُعْطِي الدُّنْيَا مَنْ يُحِبُّ وَمَنْ لَا يُحِبُّ، وَلَا يُعْطِي الدِّينَ إِلَّا لِمَنْ أَحِبَّ
“Indeed Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, gives the world to those He loves and to those He does not love. But He does not give this religion [faith and wisdom] except to the one He loves.”[HR. Aḥmad no. 3672]
2. Lessons and Message
Let us look at the pages of modern history. How many global tycoons, top-tier celebrities, or world rulers have ended tragically? They had everything—private islands, endless money, and popularity. Yet, void of the wisdom of faith, they were dragged into disgusting moral scandals, drug addiction, and severe depression. At the peak of their fame, not a few of them chose to end their own lives in a silent luxury hotel room. How sorrowful: they conquered the world, but could not conquer themselves. Rich in the eyes of people, yet bankrupt before the Creator.
Imagine a little child given a gift by his father: a luxury racing-spec sports car, incredibly fast. The car is beautiful, expensive, and awe-inspiring. But the father gives no keys and teaches no driving skills. What happens? The child recklessly starts the car, floors the gas pedal without knowing how to brake or read traffic signs. The car ends up crashing into a cliff, shattered to pieces. The world and intellectual intelligence without faith are that sports car, while wisdom is the skill to drive it. The disbeliever gets the car, but the believer gets both the car and the navigation skills.
How funny modern humans are—many suffer from “worldly glare” syndrome. They see disbelievers successfully launch rockets to space, then exclaim, “Wow, so amazing—they’re already thinking about living on Mars!
”Yet if you think about it with sound reason, that is the pinnacle of true irony. They busy themselves designing future homes on Mars, millions of kilometers away, yet forget to reserve a spot in their own burial plot measuring only 2×1 meters! They have the technology to pierce the sky’s atmosphere, but lack the wisdom to prostrate to the One who created the sky. That’s what you call being smart but foolish!
3. Conclusion and Closing
Blessed brothers and sisters, wisdom is the greatest privilege that Allah entrusts only to the hearts of the believers. Never feel like a minority or inferior just because our worldly possessions are not yet comparable to those who deny Him. Be grateful for the guidance of faith, because with faith, we are guided to save ourselves, our businesses, and our families from moral ruin.May Allah SWT always guard the light of faith and wisdom in our hearts, and keep us far from the folly that brings destruction.
