1. Opening

Friends who are blessed by Allah, In this era, many people spend enormous time and money building a self-image [personal branding] to look impressive in the public eye. They craft aphorisms and edit videos meticulously. Yet, there is one thing that no technology can ever manipulate: Spiritual Identity.A person who is wise and honest before Allah is no longer busy stringing words together to convince people. He makes his very self the best sermon, and his real behavior the actual deed. Even the radiance of spiritual aura [ḥāl] from his presence alone is enough to calm a restless soul, without him needing to convince anyone with his tongue. Because inner truth has its own energy.

Psychologically and spiritually, the human inner self emits a strong resonance. When someone reaches a level of inner authenticity and deep closeness with Allah, he will radiate tranquility [sakīnah] that can be felt by those around him. This is a spiritual vibration that cools the soul. In Islam, this condition occurs because that person’s heart has become a clean mirror reflecting divine guidance, so his behavior becomes a magnet of goodness for others

.Allah SWT describes the signs of faith that shine strongly in a servant’s physical identity in the Qur’an:

سِيمَاهُمْ فِي وُجُوهِهِم مِّنْ أَثَرِ السُّجُودِ

“Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration.”[QS. Al-Fatḥ: 29]

“Trace of prostration” here is not merely a physical mark on the forehead, but the radiance of sincerity, humility, and peace that shines from his face due to profound worship.

Rasulullah ﷺ also emphasized in a hadith how powerful the allure of a true believer’s identity is:

خِيَارُ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الَّذِينَ إِذَا رُؤُوا ذُكِرَ اللَّهُ

“The best of Allah’s servants are those who, when they are seen, their face and presence make others immediately remember Allah.”[HR. Aḥmad]

2. Lessons and Message

Let us reflect on a true story about the power of a mother’s identity in a starving orphanage. This mother was not an orator skilled at speech on stage. Her words were very simple and gentle. One night, when the food supply had run out and the orphans were crying from hunger, this mother did not complain, did not rage, and did not busy herself with live streams on social media to ask for donations. She simply performed ablution, entered her room, and prostrated at length on her prayer mat. Her tears fell, wetting the place of prostration, as she poured out the plight of those orphans directly to the Owner of the Universe. When she came out of the room with a wet face, the traces of tears radiated an extraordinary aura of tranquility and conviction. The children who had been crying in panic, upon seeing their mother’s calm face, suddenly fell silent and felt safe. They hugged their mother and said, “Mother, we’re no longer afraid of hunger as long as you are with us.” The mother’s presence and inner steadfastness had become a “sermon” that strengthened their spirits, before—just minutes later—unexpected aid truly came knocking at the door. How moving to see the strength of an identity that relies totally on Allah.

So we can understand the essence of this “spiritual aura radiance” in a relaxed way, let us use an analogy about “A Flashlight and a Firefly.”Imagine a large replica flashlight made of glossy plastic and painted gold. But unfortunately, inside it has no batteries—it’s empty. To look useful at night, the owner of this flashlight stands by the roadside shouting through a mosque loudspeaker, “Hey, look at me! I’m an expensive flashlight! I can light your way out of this forest darkness! Believe me!” But the moment the switch is pressed… it’s still pitch dark and just annoys people because it’s so loud. Now, look at a tiny firefly flying over the bushes. The firefly has no loudspeaker, cannot speak, and never brags that it has light. It just quietly flaps its little wings sincerely. But because its body naturally contains light from God’s creation, its presence in the darkness of night is immediately seen as beautiful, guides the eye, and makes those who see it smile with joy.

Funny and thought-provoking, isn’t it? Many of us on social media act like that noisy empty flashlight. We are busy projecting ourselves as the wisest and most pious through our posts, but our inner selves are empty of sincerity. We forget that people do not need the “loudspeaker sound” of our image-building; people can feel the “firefly’s light” that radiates purely from the honesty of our identity and our real daily character!

3. Conclusion & Closing

Friends, the profound moral message from the power of identity is an invitation to stop play-acting on the stage of the world. Do not tire yourself editing your outward appearance to be admired by people; instead, tire yourself arranging the purity of your inner self before Allah SWT.

Let us make every daily behavior a living sermon. Let our honesty in business speak, let our sincerity in helping others speak, and let the inner peace we have when facing trials be the real proof of the quality of our faith. When our inner self is fully filled with the radiance of taqwā, then our presence wherever we are—at home, at work, or on social media—will automatically become a lantern that cools and guides the souls of others toward His pleasure.

May Allah SWT grant us all an honest identity, cleanse our inner selves from ostentation [riyāʾ], and make our presence a source of blessing for the ummah.
