1. Opening
Friends who are blessed by Allah,If we look at the condition of the world today, humanity is experiencing an acute crisis of exemplarity. Amid the thick fog of materialism, lies, and arrogance, the world is actually searching for a direction to salvation. The question is: what kind of figure does the world need most right now? The characteristic of the ideal Muslim most needed by the world today is a figure with a “striking color.” This striking character is not born from expensive clothes, luxurious vehicles, or sensational style on social media. Rather, it is born from a golden blend of discipline in seeking lawful sustenance, sincere humility, and absolute integrity to discipline oneself in practicing knowledge before conveying it to others. When these traits unite, they radiate an extraordinary spiritual allure amid society.
Psychologically and scientifically, amid a uniform crowd, the human eye and center of awareness will automatically fix on something contrastive and consistent. In Islam, real moral exemplarity [role modeling] is that “striking color.” When a servant succeeds in disciplining himself and becomes a means of guidance for others, he is carrying out the highest function of salvation on earth. Guiding people back to Allah is the greatest investment for the Hereafter, whose value cannot be measured by worldly material.
Allah SWT affirms the beauty of a Muslim’s character who calls to goodness through real evidence of behavior in the Qur’an:
وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا مِّمَّن دَعَا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا وَقَالَ إِنَّنِي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
“And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, ‘Indeed, I am of the Muslims’?”[QS. Fuṣṣilat: 33]
The value of successfully guiding even a single human soul to the straight path holds a most exalted rank in the sight of Allah SWT. Rasulullah ﷺ affirmed this in his counsel to Companion ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib RA:
فَوَاللَّهِ لَأَنْ يَهْدِيَ اللَّهُ بِكَ رَجُلًا وَاحِدًا خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَكَ حُمْرُ النَّعَمِ
“By Allah, that Allah guides a single man through you is better for you than you owning red camels [the most luxurious wealth of that era].”[HR. Bukhārī and Muslim]
2. Lessons and Message
Let us reflect on a true story about the power of silent exemplarity. In a neighborhood filled with promiscuity and a high crime rate, there was an orphaned young man who worked hard as a market porter to provide for his sick mother. This young man never lectured, his words were few, yet he was known to be extremely honest, never willing to take money that was not his, always praying on time amid his exhaustion, and always kissing his mother’s hand before work.In that environment, there was a street thug who was greatly feared—hard-hearted and fond of drunkenness. One night, the thug sat brooding by the roadside, watching the young man return from work with a weary face yet radiating a serene smile as he greeted neighbors. The thug suddenly burst into sobs, his chest heaving with grief over his dark past.He approached the young man, embraced him, and said through tears, “Son, please teach me to pray. Seeing how you live, seeing your honesty and devotion to your mother, my hard heart is shattered. I want to return to Allah because I see the beauty of Islam within you.” How saddening to see how broken the thug’s past was, yet how moving to see how the real character of one poor young man could save a human’s spiritual life from ruin—without needing a thousand rhetorics.
So we can remember this “striking color” characteristic with an intelligent smile, let us use an analogy about “Bright Yellow on an Airport Runway.” Imagine you are a pilot flying a commercial jet at night in terrible weather, where a violent storm is pouring, thick fog covers your view, and lightning flashes. Your radio navigation signal is disrupted, and you start to panic because the plane’s fuel is running low [like modern humans lost amid life’s storms].As the plane descends, piercing the pitch-black clouds, what do you look for most on the earth from afar? Are you busy searching for where an aesthetic coffee shop is? Or looking for a political billboard with a sweetly smiling photo? Of course not! Your eyes as a pilot will focus on finding the bright yellow lines and markings that stand out at the end of the airport runway! That bright yellow color is so striking, contrasting with the darkness of the night, that it is immediately visible to the pilot from afar. The moment he sees that yellow, the pilot breathes a sigh of relief, steers his plane toward it, and lands safely with all his passengers.
Funny and convicting to our inner selves, isn’t it? Many of us modern Muslims on social media are busy painting ourselves with the same “pitch-black color” as the world’s darkness—we join in showing off luxury, join in being harsh in comment sections, and love spreading hoaxes for popularity. As a result, our existence blends into the darkness, empty, and unable to guide souls lost in life’s storms! The world does not need more “black clouds” of hypocrisy; the world longs for you to be the “bright yellow” on life’s runway—disciplined, honest, humble, and life-saving!
3. Conclusion & Closing
Friends, the profound moral message from the final conclusion of our series of talks is a crown for our existence as Muslims: be a figure that contrasts with the decay of the age. Do not let the current of worldly heedlessness erase the “color of faith” in our chests. Let us discipline ourselves starting today. Seek lawful sustenance with full integrity, adorn yourself with pure humility, and ensure that every grain of knowledge we know has first materialized in our daily behavior at home and in society. Strive sincerely to guide, inspire, and draw even one soul around us back to the straight path through the beauty of our character. For on the scale of the Hereafter, succeeding in saving one human soul is far more noble and more beloved to Allah than owning the world and all it contains.
May Allah SWT cleanse our hearts from the stain of heedlessness, fortify our character into that of the ideal Muslim, and make our presence the bright yellow that guides the ummah toward the safety of His Jannah
