1. Opening

In the natural law [sunnatullah] that governs the world of flora, fauna, and inanimate objects, the value of a single unit of a creature is always linear and homogeneous. One liter of water will never have the logistical function of one million liters of water. One sheep or one coconut tree remains just one—it cannot replace the role of one million sheep or one million other trees.Yet, there is one exclusive exception that Allah grants only to the species called man. Anthropologically and spiritually, human beings are endowed with spiritual potential, depth of intellect, resolve [himmah], and vision that make them impossible to assess by physical quantity alone. When a person succeeds in optimizing the potential of wisdom and faith within himself, the weight of his existence skyrockets. One quality human being, in value, effectiveness, and influence, can surpass or equal one million other humans or creatures.

Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā affirms this exclusive honoring of human creation in the Qur’an:

وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ وَحَمَلْنَاهُمْ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ وَرَزَقْنَاهُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَفَضَّلْنَاهُمْ عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا تَفْضِيلًا

“And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with definite preference.”[QS. Al-Isrā’: 70]

This quantitative distinction—outweighed by the spiritual quality of one person—is also depicted vividly by Rasulullah ﷺ in an authentic hadith:

إِنَّمَا النَّاسُ كَالْإِبِلِ الْمِائَةِ لَا تَكَادُ تَجِدُ فِيهَا رَاحِلَةً

“People are like a hundred camels; you can hardly find among them one fit to be a choice riding camel [strong and intelligent].”[HR. Bukhārī and Muslim]

2. Lessons and Message

The profound moral message from this exclusive law is a call to leave the zone of mediocrity. We were not created merely to be a number in the world’s population statistics. Do not let yourself live without direction, because every individual among us has the chance to become a “Chosen Person” [Rāḥilah]—one whose presence becomes a pillar of hope, a bearer of solutions, and a shaper of the history of goodness for a million people around him.

Let us look at the pages of history after disasters or major conflicts across the world. How sorrowful it is to see a people numbering hundreds of thousands, even millions, suddenly wither, despair, and lose direction when they lose the figure of a leader or teacher who was the spirit of their struggle. Conversely, how moving it is when, in a calamity, just one person with a giant firmness of heart emerges. While everyone weeps and surrenders, this one person stands tall, wipes his tears, and begins moving his hands to rebuild the rubble. One person with vision and sincerity can inject the energy of hope into the hearts of a million people nearly starving in spirit. When that one person dies, the tremor of grief is felt across the earth, as if a million people mourn with him.

Let us liken human existence to the digits zero and one. If we gather one million zeros and line them up in a field, the total value of those million zeros remains a big zero—worthless, with no bargaining power.[0][1]But bring one quality person—one with integrity, faith, and real competence. Place this digit “1” in front of that line of a million zeros. Instantly, the presence of that one turns the row of previously worthless zeros into a number in the millions, billions, even infinite in value. To be a quality human being means to be the digit “1” that gives value and dignity to the environment around you.

Regarding this concept of “one person equal to a million creatures,” there is an anecdote about a young man who misunderstood the theory because he was overconfident. This youth was lazy to study, lazy to work, and spent his days daydreaming at the village guard post. One day, he read a motivational quote: “One genius can replace the work of a million fools.”

With his chest puffed out, he went to the neighborhood chief and said, “Sir, starting tomorrow, don’t put my name on the night watch or community service roster. I’m the rare type of human—one person equal to a million creatures!” The wise and humorous chief smiled broadly and replied, “Oh, is that so? What a coincidence. Starting next month, your social aid will also be set according to the law of a million creatures.” The young man was thrilled, “Wow, you mean I’ll get a million times the aid, Sir?” The chief shook his head, “No. I mean, your one sack of rice aid—starting tomorrow you’ll have to share it equally with the one million ants in your yard. Since you’re equal!”The lesson: Being a human equal to a million creatures is measured by the magnitude of the contribution and benefit we give, not by the size of our ego and laziness!

3. Conclusion and Closing

Brothers and sisters who are blessed, in conclusion, Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā has designed humans with a very noble mold. We are not judged by physical quantity, skin color, or amount of wealth, but by the weight of the values within our hearts and our real deeds. One person who is God-fearing, knowledgeable, and sincere weighs far heavier on Allah’s scale than the earth and all it contains filled with heedless people.

May Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā elevate our rank, keep us from becoming part of the meaningless “zeros,” and shape us into chosen servants [Al-Rāḥilah] who can radiate wisdom and mobilize a million acts of goodness in this universe
