1. Introduction
Extraordinary, God-conscious friends, in the sociology of economics, the progress of a civilization is built on one main foundation: social trust. Scientifically, betrayal is a poison that destroys the system of human cooperation. When a person betrays a commitment, he is actually destroying his own reputation and self-worth for the future. A tranquil soul is one that holds firmly to its promises. Dishonesty in partnership may bring momentary financial gain, but psychologically, it creates permanent anxiety within, because a betrayer will always live in fear of being betrayed in return by the law of nature.
2. Explanation
Qur’anic and Hadith Evidence
A. Qur’anic Verse (On Allah’s hatred of betrayers):
اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُدَافِعُ عَنِ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْاۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ خَوَّانٍ كَفُوْرٍ
“Indeed, Allah defends those who have believed. Indeed, Allah does not like every treacherous ingrate.” (QS. Al-Hajj: 38) B. The Saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (On the signs of a hypocrite):
آيَةُ الْمُنَافِقِ ثَلَاثٌ: إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ، وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ، وَإِذَا اؤْتُمِنَ خَانَ
“The signs of a hypocrite are three: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is entrusted, he betrays.” (HR. Bukhari & Muslim)
3. Lessons and Message
Betrayal is not merely stealing money in secret; it is a lowly act that destroys a sacred covenant. If you invite someone into partnership because he has the expertise and you have the capital, then after absorbing all his knowledge you kick him out to seize the profit alone, you have betrayed Allah and His Messenger. Remember, wealth gained by discarding a comrade-in-struggle is cursed wealth. Do not become someone ungrateful after you have crossed the bridge to success. Imagine a talented young man who gave his whole soul and skill to build a company from zero with his capital-providing friend. He worked day and night, shared trade secrets, and stayed loyal through hardship. But once the company grew large and stable, the financier looked for petty faults to expel him in order to take full control of the shares. The young man left in tears, not because he lost wealth, but because he lost faith in a friendship. He took his expertise with him, while the betrayer remained with his capital—yet lost God’s blessing in every piece of his wealth. A betrayer is like someone wearing an extremely luxurious silk robe, but with a very wide and ugly tear at the back. He may feel magnificent in front of the mirror, but as he walks among people, everyone sees his disgrace from behind. Betrayal is a tear in one’s character that causes social and moral downfall, no matter how hard he tries to cover it with the glitter of wealth. We can be funny sometimes. We feel so clever when we manage to “outsmart” our business partner. We think it’s a “high-level business strategy,” when in fact the angels record it as an “express strategy to Hell.” We want smooth provision, yet we cut off the “channel of provision” of others who have helped us. Remember, business is not about who is the most cunning, but who is the most honest. If you want to succeed alone without sharing, you might as well do business with a wall—no need to involve humans! Don’t end up rich in your bank balance, but bankrupt in the angels’ trust balance!
4. Conclusion
Dear brothers and sisters, betrayal is a shortcut to disgrace. Guard your partnerships, value the service of those who helped you in hardship. Never discard them once you feel sufficient, for Allah sees every promise broken. Honor belongs only to those who are loyal
