1. Preface

All praise is due to Allah SWT, the Grand Designer who created every detail of His creatures with astonishing function. Today, let us look at the biological miracle of the camel’s nose and ears as a mirror for our lives.Scientifically, the camel is one of the unique mammals that has conscious muscular control over its nostrils and ears. The camel’s nose is designed with special skin folds that can close tightly to block the desert’s sharp microscopic dust from entering the lungs. Likewise with its ears; though small, they are filled with protective hair and can mechanically shut when a sandstorm strikes. This miracle ensures the camel continues to receive a supply of clean oxygen and maintains its hearing, so it can still navigate its path without stumbling in the middle of a storm. The magnificence of this design has been immortalized in the words of Allah SWT

:A. The Challenge to Observe the Camel

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ

“Then do they not look at the camel—how it was created?” (QS. Al-Ghashiyah: 17)

B. On the Accountability of the Senses

إِنَّ السَّمْعَ وَالْبَصَرَ وَالْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُولَٰئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْئُولًا

“Indeed, the hearing, the sight, and the heart—all of those will be questioned.” (QS. Al-Isra’: 36)

2. Explanation

My brothers and sisters whom Allah has blessed,

The camel’s ability to close its nose and ears is a great lesson in “Self-Protection from Inner Pollution.” In a world full of the “dust” of slander, gossip, and bad influences, we must learn from the camel. Shutting ourselves off from negativity does not mean we stop moving or become antisocial; rather, it is a way to keep our spiritual organs clean.Imagine the loyalty of a camel in the grip of a raging sandstorm. When it “locks itself down” from external disturbances, it instead stays focused on walking, carrying its master to safety. The analogy is like a construction worker using a mask and ear protectors; without that gear, he would fall ill and lose concentration. In life, our “mask” is Selective Attitude. If we allow all the “dust” of other people’s problems into our hearts, then our inner life system will break down and stall. How funny we are—we often do the opposite of the camel. We admire the camel for blocking dust, yet we ourselves open our ears wide whenever there is “dusty” news, i.e., gossip. We want lungs of faith to be healthy, but we love inhaling the pollution of other people’s social media statuses that make our hearts tight. We should be ashamed before the camel; it closes its nose for health, while we deliberately seek out the dust of others’ problems to put into our minds.

3. Lessons and Message

From the secret of the camel’s nose and ears, let us draw its wisdom:Self-Control: We must have full control over what enters our hearing and sight. Not everything deserves to be heard, and not every smell from our social circles deserves to be inhaled. Integrity in the Storm: Guard the purity of your inner self so you remain strong enough to help others. A person whose inner self is full of “dust” cannot help others with clarity. Focus on Your Trust: Like the camel that keeps walking during a storm, remain focused on Allah’s pleasure and your life’s duties even when the world around you is full of noise and slander.

4. Conclusion

In conclusion, learn from the camel that Allah grants the ability to “shut down” not to limit our movement, but to save us. Let us have control over what we hear and what we see.Close off access to all that is not beneficial, and stay focused on the path of truth. May we become individuals who are pure inwardly and outwardly, resilient in penetrating life’s storms, and ultimately arrive safely at our eternal destination in the Hereafter
