1. Introduction
Beloved, God-conscious friends, our faith is not an escape from logic, but the pinnacle of clear reason. Islam came as a light (Nur) that sweeps away the darkness of prejudice. A tranquil soul is one that stands on objective truth, not on the shadows of fear created by illusion. When we free our minds from the shackles of superstition, we are actually liberating our souls to depend solely on Al-Khaliq, the Owner of the Laws of Nature.
2. Explanation
Qur’anic and Hadith Evidence
A. Qur’anic Verse:
وَلَوِ اتَّبَعَ الْحَقُّ اَهْوَاۤءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ السَّمٰوٰتُ وَالْاَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيْهِنَّ
“And if the truth had followed their desires, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined.” (QS. Al-Mu’minun: 71)
B. The Saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لاَ تَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ
“Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of the death of anyone nor because of his birth.” (HR. Bukhari & Muslim)
3. Lessons and Message
The integrity of a believer is measured by his honesty toward facts. Islam forbids us from building piety on a foundation of lies. Excessively linking natural phenomena to human fate is a betrayal of sound reason. Be a person grounded in knowledge, because ignorance is the worst prison for a human being. Imagine the atmosphere of grief in Madinah at that time. Ibrahim, the little son of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ whom he dearly loved, had passed away. The Prophet’s tears fell, showing his profound humanity. At that same moment, the sky darkened due to an eclipse. People began to whisper, “Even the sky is weeping over the departure of the Prophet’s son.” If the Prophet ﷺ had been a seeker of popularity, he could have remained silent and let the myth magnify his name. But no! With extraordinary resolve amid his grief, he instead ascended the pulpit to correct the logic of his ummah. He chose scientific truth over praise rooted in superstition. This is the pinnacle of a leader’s honesty. Faith without knowledge is like a person walking through a dark forest relying only on feelings. He will be easily frightened by the sound of a breaking twig, thinking it is a ghost. But faith accompanied by knowledge is like carrying a bright flashlight. He knows the twig broke because of the wind, not because of a curse. The flashlight of knowledge keeps us from being easily deceived by “shamans” who sell fear. Often we see someone who claims to be “wise” (a shaman) say, “Oh no, your aura is dark; it seems you’ve been cursed by a neighbor because you eat too much salt.” Then we believe it outright and pay dearly for “incantation water.” Funny, isn’t it? We claim to believe in the God who created the universe, yet we are afraid of salt and the advice of someone who cannot even predict when he himself will get a toothache! Let’s use our reason: if jinn could really make us rich or poor, the shamans should be sitting in ministerial seats, not running practices in narrow alleys.
4. Conclusion
Dear brothers and sisters, do not let our faith be tainted by superstition, myths, or fraud disguised as religion. Islam is a religion of evidence, not a religion of fiction. Go to a doctor if you are sick, fix your communication if there are family problems, and prostrate to Allah if you feel empty.
