1. Opening

Friends who are blessed by Allah,

Have you ever noticed, when reading the pages of the Qur’an, that there are two pillars of faith most often mentioned together and paired closely by Allah SWT? Those two are faith in Allah SWT and faith in the Day of Judgment [the Day of Reckoning].Why must these two always go hand in hand? Because they are the main foundation of all human behavior. Faith in Allah is the acknowledgment that there is an All-Seeing, All-Regulating Being governing our lives. Meanwhile, faith in the Last Day is the awareness that every inch of our actions, no matter how small, will certainly be accounted for. Without either one, the human moral compass will immediately break .

Psychologically and scientifically, human behavior is driven by two main motivations: the presence of a watcher and the presence of consequences. If a person believes in Allah but does not believe in a Day of Recompense [the Last Day], he will tend to trivialize sin because he thinks there is nothing after death. Conversely, pairing these two beliefs produces extraordinary psychological stability. The soul becomes calm because it knows that goodness unappreciated in this world will surely be paid in full in the Hereafter.

Allah SWT describes the beauty of this pairing of faith’s two foundations:

لِكُمْ يُوعَظُ بِهِۦ مَن كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلآخر

“Thus is he admonished with it who believes in Allah and the Last Day.”

[QS. At-Ṭalāq: 2]

So closely linked are these two that Rasulullah ﷺ made faith in Allah and the Last Day the primary barometer of noble daily character, as in this hadith:

مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ

“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent.”[HR. Bukhārī and Muslim]

2. Lessons and Message

Let us look at a true story about an elderly mother in a remote village who worked as a dishwashing laborer. One day, she found a wallet on a city street containing tens of millions of rupiah—an amount she had never even seen in her entire life. Her child was sick at the time and needed money for medicine. Worldly logic would whisper, “Just take it, this is provision from Allah for your child; besides, no one saw you. ”Yet, with a trembling body and tears falling while holding back hunger, this elderly mother walked for kilometers to the nearest police station to turn in the wallet. When asked why she did not take it when she desperately needed it, she answered while sobbing, “This money is not my right. I fear Allah, and I fear that on the Day of Judgment, this money would become fuel that burns me before Him.” How saddening to see her poverty, yet how moving to see the firmness of faith’s foundation in her chest.

So we can reflect on the strength of this foundation in a thought-provoking way, let us use a simple analogy.

Imagine a man named Syehsyoh riding a motorcycle on the highway. Syehsyoh knows very well that at the intersection there is a highly sophisticated electronic traffic camera [E-TLE] belonging to the police. The camera runs 24 hours and is directly connected to the central database. Would Syehsyoh dare to run a red light or ride without a helmet at that intersection? Of course not! He will surely sit properly, upright, and pretend to be the most exemplary rider in the world. Why? Because he knows two things: First, the camera is there and sees him [analogous to faith in Allah]. Second, he knows that in a few days the ticket and fine will definitely arrive at his house [analogous to faith in the Last Day].

The funny thing is, many people today claim to believe in Allah, but their behavior on social media or in real life makes a habit of “running religious red lights”—slandering, flaunting sin, and corrupting. They forget that Allah’s “CCTV” never buffers, and the “ticket” of the Hereafter will definitely be handed over on the Day of Reckoning. Let our faith not be weaker than Syehsyoh’s fear of a traffic camera!

3. Conclusion & Closing

Friends, the profound moral message from this foundation of faith is an invitation to check the emergency brake within ourselves. Worldly life often offers a deceptive stage where justice can sometimes be bought with wealth. Yet, for a wise believer, the pairing of faith in Allah and the Last Day is an anchor that keeps him grounded, honest, and noble in character even in solitude. Because he realizes: Allah is Ever-Watchful, and the Day of Recompense is an unavoidable certainty.May Allah SWT always strengthen these two pillars of faith in our chests, so that we may always walk safely and securely toward His pleasure
