1. Preface
Biologically, we recognize the concepts of Aposematism and Crypsis_—the ability of living beings to blend into their environment. In human military science, camouflage requires deep research and advanced materials, yet in the wild, we witness high-level “Camouflage Technology” that occurs automatically. A snake shaped like a twig or a pufferfish that inflates itself are extremely precise systems of defense and offense. Animals have no military academy, yet they possess instincts given directly by the Creator, as He says:
قَالَ رَبُّنَا الَّذِيْٓ اَعْطٰى كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلْقَهٗ ثُمَّ هَدٰى
_“He said, ‘Our Lord is He who gave everything its form, then guided it.’” (QS. Thaha : 50)
. Explanation
The best strategy in life is not merely relying on physical strength, but “hiding” behind His protection. Imagine a newborn fawn; Allah gives it white spots on its back that resemble sunlight dappling through leaves. When a predator passes just inches away, the fawn stays still and survives. That is God’s mercy working in silence. An animal’s camouflage is like du’a and dhikr for a believer. In a world full of “predators” in the form of slander and trials, dhikr is our protective cloak. When we enter the fortress of remembering Allah, trials may still be around, but they can no longer wound the soul. Just as birds are guaranteed provision, every creature is under perfect care:
لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ تَتَوَكَّلُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ حَقَّ تَوَكُّلِهِ لَرَزَقَكُمْ كَمَا يَرْزُقُ الطَّيْرَ تَغْدُو خِمَاصًا وَتَرُوحُ بِطَانًا
“If you were to rely upon Allah with true reliance, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds: they go out in the morning empty and return in the evening full.” (HR. Tirmidzi)We can be funny sometimes; we admire a chameleon changing colors to survive, yet we ourselves love to “change colors” or put on an act for worldly gain, like when dealing with responsibility. But no matter how sophisticated our camouflage is before people, before Allah everything remains “transparent.”
3. Lessons and Message
The greatest lesson is about Divine Protection. If even a fragile butterfly is given “clothes” of camouflage to survive, could we think Allah would leave us alone to face life’s storms?
The moral message: adapt to Allah’s decree so you remain tranquil. Make taqwa your primary strategy, for it is the best protector, surpassing all material sophistication.
4. Conclusion
My brothers and sisters, military strategy in the wild is a sign of Allah’s greatness—Al-Hadi, the Guide. He guides every creature toward its safety. Let us reflect on this nature to strengthen our faith. If animals are prepared to face danger with equipment from God, let us prepare our souls with total surrender to Him. May we always be embraced by the mercy and protection of Allah SWT
