1. Preface
Many people think the good life is about accumulating numbers in a bank account or holding prestigious titles. Yet, from a spiritual-psychological view, true happiness is a matter of perception and connection. When the heart is connected to the Creator, a condition called Hayatan Thayyibah emerges. A good life is when you are under Allah’s Inayah (care); you no longer worry about tomorrow, because you know who holds tomorrow in His hands.Allah SWT has prescribed the formula for this life with great precision:
مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّنْ ذَكَرٍ اَوْ اُنْثٰى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهٗ حَيٰوة طَيِّبَة
“Whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while he is a believer—We will surely give him a good life.” (QS. An-Nahl: 97)
2. ExplanationImagine someone who owns a vast flower garden. He can busy himself counting petals and fearing the flowers will wilt, or he can sit calmly, inhale the fragrance, and be grateful. The second choice belongs to the owner of a good life. Provision (rizq) isn’t always about a monthly salary; contentment is provision, patience is provision, and wisdom is also provision. The good life is when you have a wife who is soothing to look at, children who are healthy, and a reputation that is fragrant. All of that is adornment no credit card can buy.See how beautiful it is when the Messenger ﷺ said about his wife:
إِنِّي رُزِقْتُ حُبَّهَا “
Indeed, I have been granted the provision of loving her.” (HR. Muslim) Love is provision. If around you there are people who sincerely love you, then you are the richest person in the world, even if your wallet is on a “strict diet.” These days, many people own luxurious beds worth tens of millions, yet they buy them on installments that keep them up at night. Whereas the good life is simple: an ordinary foam pillow, but a tranquil heart—once you lie down, you instantly “log out” of the world and sleep soundly. A righteous wife is a great provision, especially if she rarely “scolds” when you come home late. And even if she still scolds a little, well, that’s just provision training your patience. Be grateful anyway!
3. Lessons and Message
The fundamental lesson for us is that Hayatan Thayyibah is not about how much we own, but how much contentment (qana‘ah) we feel. The moral message: stop chasing happiness by social media standards. Focus on investing in faith and righteous deeds, for that is the currency valid both in this world and before Allah. When you feel secure with Allah’s decree, that is the pinnacle of the art of enjoying life.
4. Conclusion
My beloved brothers and sisters, the good life is when you understand the Book of Allah and feel at peace with the future—even when thinking about death. Descending into the grave for a believer is not an end, but a gateway to meeting the Beloved. Let us pursue the good life with firm faith. Sleep with a satisfied heart, wake with a grateful tongue. For when you are with Allah, you truly already have everything.
