1. Preface

The medical world explains that the certainty of pregnancy passes through three phases: the Phase of Doubt, the Phase of Suspicion, and the Phase of Certainty. Biologically, at week 18—or precisely on day 126 to day 130—the fetus begins active movements that can be physically felt by the mother. This 130-day mark is the medical threshold of “certainty” to confirm whether the womb is occupied or clear, so that a child’s lineage is safeguarded with utmost accuracy. Allah SWT has established this law in His Noble Book:

وَالَّذِيْنَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُوْنَ اَزْوَاجًا يَّتَرَبَّصْنَ بِاَنْفُسِهِنَّ اَرْبَعَةَ اَشْهُرٍ وَّعَشْرًا

“And those of you who die and leave behind wives—they [the wives] shall wait for four months and ten days.” (QS. Al-Baqarah : 234)

This precision of Divine design within humans is an irrefutable sign of the truth of revelation.2. Explanation

The ‘Iddah period is like a highly precise “Quarantine Time.” If an airplane is to land on a new runway, that runway must be confirmed completely clear to prevent an accident. Allah grants 4 months and 10 days so that the “runway” of the womb is truly clear and ready—both psychologically and physically—so that any new life in the future has a clear foundation.There is a fascinating account of a scientist who studied the biological trace of a husband in his wife’s womb; he was astonished to find that the trace was completely cleared exactly after the duration mentioned in the Qur’an. This correspondence proves that the Qur’an came from the very Creator of the womb, as He says:

سَنُرِيْهِمْ اٰيٰتِنَا فِي الْاٰفَاقِ وَفِيْٓ اَنْفُسِهِمْ حَتّٰى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ اَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.” (QS. Fussilat : 53) We sometimes obey a doctor’s prescription without asking “why,” yet often question Allah’s rules. Whereas Allah—the “Doctor of All Doctors”—set this rule to protect the “spare parts” of our lineage, so that no historical chaos befalls our descendants later on

.3. Lessons and Message

The fundamental lesson for us is that the 4-month-and-10-day decree is not only about biology, but about Honor and Certainty.

The moral message: every divine rule, even if it sometimes lies beyond our reasoning, surely carries benefit for human safety. The ‘iddah is not a “prison,” but a form of legal and biological protection to prevent the mixing of lineage that would ruin the family order. Do not let impatience tarnish the nobility of the Shariah.

4. Conclusion

My brothers and sisters, the alignment between modern medical facts and the Qur’an is tangible proof that Islam is a religion from the All-Knowing. The ‘iddah period is a form of Allah’s mercy for women, giving certainty to body and soul. Let us submit to His Shariah with full conviction, for behind every command of His lies boundless secrets of health and nobility for mankind.
