1. Opening
In the world of technology, a complex system needs two things to function optimally: an Operating System [OS] and a Maintenance Guide. If the Qur’an is the operating system, then Hadith is the maintenance guide and practical operations manual. Neurobiologically, humans tend to feel anxious when facing procedural uncertainty. Hadith comes as the “clarifier” that reduces that uncertainty. When we follow the lifestyle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—from how to sleep, eat, to how we interact—our bodies are actually syncing with the healthiest biological rhythms. The soul becomes tranquil because it is no longer groping in the dark for instructions.
Allah SWT commands us to follow the bearer of the message as a manifestation of obedience to Him:
مَّن يُطِعِ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَقَدۡ أَطَاعَ ٱللَّهَۖ وَمَن تَوَلَّىٰ فَمَا أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَفِيظٗا
“Whoever obeys the Messenger has truly obeyed Allah. But whoever turns away, then We have not sent you as a keeper over them.” (QS. An-Nisā’: 80)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave a safety guarantee to anyone who holds onto this guide:
تَرَكْتُ فِيكُمْ أَمْرَيْنِ لَنْ تَضِلُّوا مَا تَمَسَّكْتُمْ بِهِمَا: كِتَابَ اللهِ وَسُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهِ
“I have left with you two matters. You will never go astray as long as you hold firmly to them: the Book of Allah [the Qur’an] and the Sunnah of His Prophet.” (HR. Mālik – Al-Muwatta’)
2. Lessons and Message
A person’s greatness does not lie in how many life theories they create themselves, but in how faithfully they follow the guide from their Creator. Following the Sunnah does not mean being confined to the past; it means ensuring that our human “machine” stays maintained with original spare parts of character. Don’t let your life “wear out” because of a lifestyle that doesn’t match the maintenance guide from Heaven.
There’s a story about a young man who was new to Islam. He felt confused about how to be a good human being. One day he read a hadith about how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ deeply loved cats and gave rights to his neighbors, even those who hurt him. The young man wept and said, “The world taught me to be a wolf to others in order to survive, but this Prophet’s manual is teaching me how to be a human being with a heart again.” He found that the Sunnah is not just rules, but a way to re-humanize humans who have gone numb. Imagine buying a highly complex private jet. You have the large instruction book [the Qur’an], but you ignore the daily technical guide on how to warm up the engine and check air pressure [the Hadith]. What happens? The plane may look magnificent on the ground, but it will explode when forced to fly. The Prophet’s Sunnah is the daily Maintenance Guide that ensures the “aircraft” of our life doesn’t crash in the middle of worldly storms.
We often fear losing our phone’s “manual” more than losing our life’s guide. If our new phone won’t connect to the internet, we tear the box apart to find the manual. But when our life has “no signal” from Allah’s mercy, we busy ourselves asking shamans or reading zodiac forecasts. Remember, an expensive phone can explode if charged wrong—what more a soul! Don’t wait until the Hereafter to realize, “Wait, the manual was given long ago, but I used it as a table leg prop!”
3. Conclusion and Closing
My blessed brothers and sisters, the Qur’an and Sunnah are the complete package to ensure you don’t get lost in the deceitful jungle of this world. Hadith is the technical guide so you know how to be grateful when happy and how to be patient when in hardship. Make the Sunnah your lifestyle, and you will feel how beautiful it is to walk the earth with guidance from Heaven. May we be among the servants who remain loyal to this finest “User Manual.
