1. Opening
In aerospace, NASA has a term called Criticality 1 Items. These are tiny components that, if they fail, will end the entire mission in total disaster. A rocket consists of millions of parts, and its success in breaking through Earth’s gravity depends on 100% compliance with SOP [Standard Operating Procedure]. Psychologically, the human soul also has an “integrity threshold.” When we start to belittle small rules in life, our mental and social structure begins to weaken. Peace of mind is achieved when we realize that every one of God’s rules is not an obstacle, but a “mathematical calculation” that keeps us in the orbit of happiness.
Allah SWT reminds us that His laws were created with perfect balance to safeguard our lives:
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡمِيزَانِ
“And He raised the heaven and set the balance, that you not transgress within the balance.” (QS. Ar-Rahmān: 7-8)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also warned of the danger of belittling the “small bolts” in our behavior:
إِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحَقَّرَاتِ الذُّنُوبِ فَإِنَّهُنَّ يَجْتَمِعْنَ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ حَتَّى يُهْلِكْنَهُ
“Beware of sins that are regarded as trivial, for they accumulate upon a person until they destroy him.” (HR. Ahmad)
2. Lessons and Message
Allah’s rules—like the prohibition of riba or zina —are not just moral bans, but safety SOPs for civilization. If you discard one of those rules because you think it’s “outdated,” you are actually loosening the bolts that secure your economy and your family’s honor. Integrity means obeying all the rules, not just the ones we like.
Remember the tragedy of the Challenger space shuttle explosion. After investigation, the cause of that massive destruction was not a main engine failure, but just a single rubber O-ring seal that failed due to cold temperatures. A multi-billion-dollar project and the lives of astronauts were lost over one “small bolt” that was overlooked. It’s the same in life; many households collapse and businesses go bankrupt not from lack of capital, but because one “rubber seal” of honesty cracked from riba, or one “bolt” of loyalty came loose from zina.
Imagine you are building a rocket to carry your family toward a bright future. Allah has given the complete SOP: “Use the bolt of honesty, install the heat shield of patience, and do not remove the bolt prohibiting riba.” If you think you’re smarter than Heaven’s NASA engineer and say, “Ah, this one riba bolt won’t matter,” then brace yourself. When life’s pressure hits its peak, the tiny hole from the bolt you threw away will become the starting point of an explosion that destroys your entire family’s dreams.
]Humans are funny. If we buy flat-pack furniture and one bolt is left over, we break into a cold sweat: “Whoa, what’s this bolt for? What if the wardrobe collapses?” We meticulously search for the hole. But when it comes to life’s rules, when Allah says don’t use bank interest [riba], we say, “Ah, this is just a decorative bolt for the economy, it’s fine.” Remember, a collapsing wardrobe at worst hits your toe, but if your household “rocket” explodes because of zina or riba, what gets destroyed is your world—and your Hereafter!3. My blessed brothers and sisters, never think you know better than the Creator. Every verse in the Qur’an and every Sunnah of the Prophet is a reinforcing bolt for your life’s rocket. Do not discard a single one of His rules if you want to land safely in Paradise. Follow the complete SOP, so your mission in this world ends in great success [Husnul Khātimah]
