Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim
1. Opening
Imagine, inside your body there are around 37 trillion cells working in harmony without you commanding them. Your heart beats 100,000 times a day, and your brain has a memory equivalent to 2.5 petabytes. We are the most sophisticated “bio-machine” in the universe. Yet, this physical sophistication is often the opposite of our inner peace. Why does a machine this remarkable often “crash,” get stressed, or emotionally malfunction? The answer is simple: we often try to operate ourselves without reading the manual from the Designer.
Allah SWT has sent down the “Manual” so that this human machine does not break down along the way:
كِتَٰبٌ أَنزَلنَٰهُ إِلَيكَ مُبَٰرَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓاْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُواْ ٱلأَلبَٰبِ
“This is a blessed Book which We have sent down to you, so that they may ponder its verses and so that people of understanding may take heed.” (QS. Ṣād: 29)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also reminded us of the importance of holding fast to that guide:
تَرَكْتُ فِيْكُمْ أَمْرَيْنِ لَنْ تَضِلُّوْا مَا تَمَسَّكْتُمْ بِهِمَا كِتَابَ اللهِ وَسُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهِ
“I have left among you two things; you will never go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet.” (HR. Malik)
2. Lessons and Message
A person’s greatness is not measured by how hard they work, but by how synchronized their life is with Allah’s rules. Living life without the rules of the Qur’an is like forcing a luxury car to drive on water—no matter how expensive it is, it will sink because it is not being used according to its function. Adab must precede knowledge, and faith must be the main operating system before we download any other worldly applications. There is a story of a convert in Europe who suffered severe depression. He had everything: wealth, status, and looks. Yet he felt the “machine” of his soul was worn out. One night, he heard the recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman. Though he did not understand Arabic, he wept uncontrollably. He felt as if a “chip” in his soul had finally found the signal it had been missing. He said, “It was as if my Creator was speaking directly, repairing the broken wires of my soul.” That is the power of the Qur’an as Shifā’ [a cure].
Living without religious guidance is like buying the most advanced, latest-model smartphone and then using it as a mortar to grind chili paste. Is it possible? Sure, but it will be destroyed! So it is with humans; if we were created to worship Allah but are used only to chase wealth, then we are destroying ourselves in the most misguided way.
Often we panic more when our phone battery is low than when our faith is low. If our phone breaks, we run to the official service center for its brand. But when our life breaks down, many people instead run to shamans or drown themselves in intoxication. Yet if you are broken, come to the “Factory” via your prayer mat. Don’t be strange: your machine is made by Allah, but you ask anyone other than Allah to service it. How does that make sense?
3. Conclusion and Closing
My brothers and sisters, we are not merely flesh and bone. We are the Masterpiece of the Creator with a purpose. The Qur’an is not just an ornament on a shelf or something to be read only when someone dies. It is the daily manual so that our physical and psychological machine stays in prime condition until the time we “return” to the original Factory. Let us return to the Guide, so that life does not merely move forward, but arrives safely at its destination.
