1. Opening
In the world of technology, every device is designed with specific load limits and fuel types. If an engine designed for gasoline is filled with water, catastrophic failure_—total system breakdown—will occur. Psychologically, humans also have emotional “fuel.” Our hearts were designed to be filled with tranquility [_thuma’ninah] sourced from spirituality. When we force the heart to be filled with excessive worldly ambition, envy, and endless anxiety, the stress hormone cortisol rises drastically. As a result, the immune system weakens and the soul “wears out” prematurely. The soul finds peace when it is “fed” according to the specifications of its creation.
Allah SWT warns of the consequences of neglecting the manual of life:
وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْ ذِكْرِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضَنْكًا وَنَحْشُرُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَعْمَىٰ
“And whoever turns away from My remembrance—indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.” (QS. Thāhā: 124)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also explained how fragile the engine of the heart is when misused:
أَلَا وَإِنَّ فِي الْجَسَدِ مُضْغَةً إِذَا صَلَحَتْ صَلَحَ الْجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ وَإِذَا فَسَدَتْ فَسَدَ الْجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ أَلَا وَهِيَ الْقَلْبُ
“Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body—if it is sound, the whole body is sound; if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Beware! It is the heart.” (HR. Bukhārī & Muslim)
2. Lessons and Message
This world is merely a brief “trial” phase. Real life is in the hands of the Creator. Living without Allah’s rules is the most fatal form of “wrong use.” The impact isn’t just physical damage or financial failure, but permanent damage to the heart. If the heart’s engine is broken, no worldly pleasure will ever taste sweet. Live by the rules so your “warranty” for Paradise remains valid.
There was once a billionaire who, at the end of his life, said, “I bought everything listed in the catalog of worldly luxury, but I forgot to read one book: the instruction manual on how to feel content.” He died in anxiety even while sleeping on the most expensive mattress. He realized in his final moments that he had “misused” his life; he used his heart to hoard wealth he couldn’t take with him, not to accumulate deeds that could save him. His heart was ruined not by poverty, but by the wrong purpose.
Imagine you own the latest, most advanced supercar, yet you use it to plow a deep, muddy rice field. Will the car run? Maybe for a while, but its engine will soon explode. That’s what humans are like when they use their intellect and energy only to chase the world without regard for halal and haram. He may look “luxurious,” but he’s actually destroying himself by doing a job he was never created for.
We often fear voiding our phone’s warranty more than voiding our warranty for Paradise. Buy a new phone, and if it drops a little we panic: “Oh no, the warranty won’t be valid!” But when our heart falls into sin, we’re relaxed: “Ah, I can repent when I’m old.” The problem is, we know when a phone’s warranty expires because there’s a date on it—but who knows when our “life warranty” expires? Don’t let it be that when you try to claim it in the Hereafter, the angel says: “Sorry, status is ‘void’ due to misuse in the world!”
3. Conclusion and Closing
My blessed brothers and sisters, stop experimenting with lifestyles that violate the Creator’s rules. A broken machine can be serviced, but a broken heart and a chaotic life from being far from religion will bring ruin all the way to the Hereafter. Return to the default setting [fitrah], follow the Qur’an and Sunnah manual, so your life runs smoothly and reaches its destination safely.
